Hotel Casino Carrasco meant suspension of other investments

Although an investment -estimated at $ 69,000,000- was approved by the Uruguayan government and repeatedly announced by the Mayor of Canelones, the construction of a five-star hotel with a private casino, shopping and other services being planned in Villa Argentina, was postponed after the bidding of the Hotel Casino Carrasco to a private group.

The investment project involved the construction of a marina with 52 moorings, a five-star hotel with 180 rooms, spa, convention hall, shopping and cinema complex, a private casino, a golf course, shops and a division of about 600 residential lots.

The Mayor of Guaymallén, Alejandro Abraham, has expressed his concern over the fate that five-star hotels and casinos planned near a shopping center in his department will have.

Jamaican government approves casino construction

The Jamaican government has decided to issue the license for the first legal casino of the country. According to a government spokesperson, the gaming venue will be inside a new hotel to be built in Montego Bay, St. James by international investors and casino operators.

The same spokesperson said the hotel will have more than 3,000 rooms and will employ thousands of Jamaicans but did not give further details. Prime Minister Bruce Golding is expected to announce the government’s decision soon and reveal the identity of the investors.
